Nicole's journey from a chance encounter to her own dog grooming business
Nicole never imagined she'd become a dog groomer. In fact, with only short-coated dogs of her own, she hadn't given the profession much thought until a chance encounter while travelling sparked an unexpected interest.
With no dog grooming courses available near her, Nicole decided to study online with Pet Courses. What started as a curiosity soon became a new career, and just six months after welcoming her son, she launched her own business, Pawfection Pet Service.

I'm a firm believer that you're never too old to learn something new - I did and it's paid off!

A chance encounter that changed everything
Nicole had always dreamed of working for herself, but finding the right business wasn't easy. With a lifestyle that involved frequent travel and with plans to start a family, she wanted something flexible that she could run from home.
Dog grooming seemed to tick every box. She loved dogs, could work for herself and set her own hours, but with no courses available locally, getting started wasn't straightforward.
That's when she discovered Pet Courses and enrolled in the online Professional Dog Grooming Diploma. What started as an introduction to a completely new industry became the foundation for her own dog grooming business.
From a new mum to a business owner
Just six months after welcoming her son, Nicole launched Pawfection Pet Service, creating a home-based grooming business that fitted around her growing family.
Starting with a simple but functional setup in her garage, Nicole purchased the equipment she could afford, gradually upgrading and adding to it as her business grew. She promoted her services through local Facebook groups, created her own business cards and branded shirts, and began building her client base.
Balancing motherhood, family life and a new business wasn't always easy, but Nicole set herself goals each year and worked steadily towards them. With every dog she groomed, her skills and confidence grew.
Through determination and hard work, she'd created something she'd always wanted — a business of her own, with the flexibility to work around her family and a career doing something she loved.
Looking back on her achievements in 2021, Nicole is incredibly proud of how far she's come, and rightly so.

I found a job where I could work for myself, choose my own hours, and have a career in an industry that I absolutely love.
