Kylie’s journey from a dream to her own dog grooming business
Kylie always dreamed of working with dogs, but she never imagined how quickly that dream could become part of her everyday life. Starting out with no previous dog grooming experience, she gradually built her skills and confidence as she progressed through her course. It didn't take long before she created a beautiful grooming space at home and began welcoming her first clients.
I just booked my 40th client... never did I believe that I would be doing that a few months ago!
Turning a love of dogs into something more
Kylie took her time working through the course step by step, reading the lessons, watching the tutorials, and testing her knowledge through the interactive activities and assessments.
But it was when she began putting those skills into practice that things really started to click. Kylie practised on her own dogs, Ziggy and Simba, trying different techniques and building her practical experience at home..
She soon realised she had found something she genuinely loved. With a new sense of passion and motivation, Kylie kept practising and before long, was proudly sharing photos of her grooms in the student group.
The encouragement she received helped her confidence grow even further. Although learning online, she was surrounded by other students on the same journey, sharing their progress, experiences and advice giving her a supportive place to ask questions, celebrate her improvements and keep moving forward.
From learning the skills to welcoming her first clients
At the beginning Kylie lacked confiedence unsure if she could really turn her passion for dogs into a business. Worried that she might fail, she kept her initial setup simple and inexpensive, creating a small grooming space in her laundry while she learned and practised.
As Kylie progressed through the course and began putting her new skills into practice, her confidence gradually grew. Around three-quarters of the way through her course, she decided it was time to take a chance. She had some basic flyers and business cards printed and started putting herself out there.
Within just three to four months of advertising, the clients started coming. What had begun as a simple setup in her laundry was becoming a real home dog grooming business.
Today, Kylie grooms from home through Kylie’s Home Dog Grooming, enjoying the freedom of being her own boss and doing work she genuinely loves. Not long after starting, she celebrated booking her 40th client — something she admits she never believed she would be doing just a few months earlier.

Could dog grooming be right for you?
You don't need to have it all figured out before you start. Many dog groomers begin with a love of dogs, a willingness to learn and a plan to build their skills one step at a time.
“But I don't have grooming experience...”
You don't need previous grooming experience to start learning. Build your knowledge step by step, practise your skills on real dogs and develop your confidence as you progress.
“But I don't have a salon...”
You don't need a commercial salon to get started. Many groomers begin by creating a suitable space at home, such as in their laundry or garage, before deciding what works best for them.
“Do I need to buy everything at once?”
You can start with just the basic essential grooming tools and equipment and build your setup over time as your skills, experience and needs grow.
Advice that I can offer is to trust yourself and know that the knowledge that you're going to gain from doing this course is going to stand you in good stead to be a groomer.
